Why You Should Stay Away From Politics on a First Date: Politics is a Cock Blocker

What’s the one thing you really know about someone you’ve just met? You don’t know that much about them. Sure, you’ve skimmed through her profile and probably spent a few hours discussing all sorts of things on Instant Messenger and SMS. But you don’t really know all that much about her quite yet. You might know that she likes dancing, drinking, and fine dining, but do you know what her political affiliations are? Probably not.

Even if you do know her political affiliations, it’s still a no-no to bring up politics on a first date. The reason? You can easily offend her. Religion and politics have no business entering into the discussion on a first date. Before bringing these topics into your discussions, get to know her for a while. Actually, get to know her for a long while.

Political discussions spark heated debates

Want to argue politics? Find yourself an Internet forum and argue away. Politics is a sensitive subject. If you’re on a date with a woman that shares completely opposite political views than you, it could lead to a heated debate. And we all know how heated debates end up. “Check, please!”

Take George W. Bush, for example. A good portion of the United States absolutely hates that man. If you were a Bush supporter and so much as mention that to a Bush hater, you just might piss her off. Don’t care for Universal Healthcare? If you’re on a date with a woman that’s passionate about Universal Healthcare and you tell her that you don’t think the U.S. would benefit from it, she might tell you to piss off and leave.

Simply put – you just never know where she stands on political issues

I’ve met quite a few women I was certain I knew their political affiliations without asking them. I’m right most of the time. For example, if she’s wearing a Barack Obama sticker, it’s a certainty that she’s a Democrat. However, most people don’t walk around with their political affiliation stamped to their bodies. Sometimes I’ve been wrong when assuming a woman was either a Democrat or a Republican. You just never know.

Even if your views are the same, politics are a bad first date topic

Maybe you’ll get lucky and you just so happen to share the exact same political views. That’s fantastic. But it’s still a horrible first date topic. Friends discuss and argue politics, not lovers. It’s not the type of topic that’s going to get her in the mood. Even if she likes the fact that you agree with her politically, you’re not going to take the conversation into the bedroom. Stick with discussions about what you want in a relationship, humorous topics (non-offensive ones, of course), and your future goals. Politics should not even come up in the discussions.
